I got the job!!!
One of the few moments in life where I will use, not one, but three exclamation points. I was hired the very same day!
I tell you what, that interview was harrowing. There were six physicians at the table, as well as two office directors, and the head of HR. Each of them had to have their say, had to ask their questions, had to see if they could break me. Mostly, they wanted to ask a question, hear my answer, and then talk to me a really long time about how they do things. So I also spent a lot of time listening.
They asked a lot of questions like, “Are you going to be able to handle a full schedule, and then be able to remain calm when we have an add on emergency patient?”
I wanted to laugh at them. They have no idea what my job is like right now. They said, “Sometimes, you might end up doing as many as twelve ultrasounds.” I said, “Twelve? That sounds good. Twelve is a good day for me.” They all laughed and thought I was joking. Twenty ultrasounds is a bad day for me. Twelve is cake.
(I said twelve so many times in that last paragraph, now it doesn’t sound like a word to me. Twelve. Twelve. Twelve. How do you twelve something?)
Anyhow. I had a good feeling walking out of the interview, and I was called by 4:00 the same day with the offer. I have a health screening appointment on Monday, and then the following Monday, July 16th, is my first day. Incidentally, I have to work the midnight shift the Saturday and Sunday before that. Lovely how that works out.
It will be ok, though. It’s all worth it. I’m getting into the job that I want to get into, I don’t have to keep working weekends forever, and I’m excited. Like my mom says, “Everything is just starting to fall into the right place.”
